Dr. Roger Mitchell Jr., is the President of Howard University Hospital. In this role, he leads the strategic vision of the hospital to improve quality and safety practices and ensure continued growth and alignment with AHC.
Dr. Mitchell is a highly respected physician leader with decades of experience in healthcare who takes a multi-faceted and dedicated approach to improving healthcare outcomes through strategic leadership and collaborative strategies. He harbors a distinct ability to lead high-level healthcare organizations poised for growth while partnering with executive level staff to advance unique challenges in the healthcare space. Dr. Mitchell offers a proven record, bridging gaps and fostering collaboration to ensure alignment and common organizational objectives. He is a well-respected, industry-leading, nationally recognized Forensic Pathologist and Medical Doctor.
Dr. Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Howard University and a Doctor of Medicine from UMDNJ New Jersey Medical School. He completed a pathology residency at George Washington University and a forensic pathology fellowship at New York University/NY OCME.
Additionally, Dr. Mitchell has served as a tenured professor at Howard University’s Department of Pathology and various boards and committees, including the HUH Performance Improvement Committee, the HU Faculty Onboarding & Appointment Task Force and the HU Promotions and Graduation Committee. Lastly, Roger is a nationally recognized healthcare leader, serving as the current President-Elect for the National Medical Association.
Dr. Mitchell is co-author of the book “Death In Custody.” In his spare time, he promotes raising awareness for gun violence in the community.
